We’re off to the heralded pantheon of Greek gods, myths, and legends once again for this exciting 2019 release from the up-and-coming Triple Edge Studios. Myths and legends have been a popular theme for UK Mobile Slots for years. The rich culture that’s built up around Ancient Greece, with its colorful and powerful gods, makes for great scenery and iconography for any mobile slots game, and we feel that Triple Edge Studios have put it to good use in Ancient Fortunes: Zeus.

Game Summary

Much of the real (or should that be 'reel?) fun to be had in this slot comes during the bonus features, which we'll be talking about in a little while, but before we get to them, there's plenty to admire about the base game. Ancient Fortunes: Zeus is a little old-school in terms of its presentation and functionality. There's a standard 5x3 set of reels and rows to play with, containing only ten fixed paylines. In the current era of mobile slots that might seem low, but that shouldn't put you off giving the slot a try. The way that one win often leads on to another one more than makes up for the lack of paying lines to aim at.

Ancient Fortunes: Zeus Mobile Setup

The graphics of Ancient Fortunes: Zeus are nice and solid. The reels are a little cramped, but not to the point where you can’t easily keep track of what’s going on. The space they’d normally occupy has been given over to an ominous, thundering sky, which helps to create the slot’s atmosphere. In legend, Zeus was always associated with his ability to create thunder, so it makes sense for the slot that bears his name to be a stormy one. The reels themselves are set into a solid-looking wall of marble, with all of the symbols also taking on a stony tone. These aren’t market-leading visuals, but they’re pleasant enough to look at, and they’re nice and sharp.

We're not sure what a snake, an octopus, a vulture, or a cat have to do with the legend of Zeus, but they're there on the reels, working as the lowest-value symbols. They make a pleasant change from the playing cards which turn up in all too many mobile slots, and ruin the theming. Above them is the face of Medusa, two bearded male figures (who may or may not be Gods), and a Greek warrior in a battle helmet.

As with most UK mobile slots which have bonus features, there are a couple of additional bonus symbols to be found here, too. The first is the great God Zeus - without whom the slot wouldn’t be possible - and he serves as the wild. He can replace every other symbol apart from the lightning-bolt scatter to complete winning lines for you. The lightning bolt, other than functioning in the same way all scatters do, will also give you access to one of the bonus features. For that reason, you’ll be hoping to see lightning strike more than twice in Ancient Fortunes: Zeus!

Bonus Features

There’s one bonus game to play here in this slot, and another bonus feature which is active both within that bonus feature, and also within the base game. That’s Collapsing Wins, which we're beginning to see used more and more in UK mobile slots, and we're always pleased when it's included. Under the collapsing wins feature, every symbol which is involved in a winning line will vanish from the reels after your winnings have been tallied up and awarded to you. New symbols will then drop in from above the reels to replace them, and the lines will be checked again for further wins. The real kicker here is that every time a new win is created by symbols coming in from above, the multiplier applied to that win increases. If you can put together four wins on the bounce without spinning the reels again, you're awarded a 7x multiplier.

The bonus feature which is triggered by the lightning bolts is a Free Spins round. The more times lightning strikes the reels, the more spins you’ll get. Three on one spin is enough to get you ten, but you’ll be hoping to see four or five, which will award you fifteen or twenty spins. This round can be triggered again once it’s got started if you’re able to land more scatter symbols. During free spins, the multipliers applied to any collapsing wins are increased. Just stringing two together is worth 3x the value it would normally be. Three in a row gets to 7x, four consecutive wins come in at 11x, and if you’re ever able to make it to five, you’ll get 21x the base game value.

This is an, easy, fun, and rewarding mobile slots game which brings a lot of excitement through its bonus features. Collapsing wins can turn any small win into a big one with a bit of luck, and triggering the bonus feature can really up to the ante. It's worthy of Zeus himself!

About the Mobile Slot Developer - Triple Edge Studios

Triple Edge Studios logo

Triple Edge Studios are a brand new name within the field of developing mobile slots - so new, in fact, that almost nothing is known about them! They’ve only released five UK mobile slots at the time of writing, although that five includes Bookie of Odds, Book of Oz slot game, and Lara Croft: Temples and Tombs slot, so we think it’s fair to say that the early signs from them are very promising.

At this early stage in their development, they currently make slots exclusively in partnership with Microgaming, the gaming giant who has been around since mobile slots were invented. In fact, they more-or-less invented mobile slots themselves. It was Microgaming who coded the first-ever software which made mobile slots a possibility, all the way back in 2004. In recent years, Microgaming has signed up a number of smaller studios to create slots for them. It helps Microgaming expand their offering, while also providing them with a well of talent drawn from the newest and youngest minds in the industry. For Triple Edge, it means they can get their creations to a wider audience, and therefore establish their reputation much faster than they may otherwise have been able to achieve. They describe themselves as an 'agile and dynamic' development team, with intentions of being at the forefront of the industry. Time will tell.
