Sherlock Holmes might just be the most famous detective of all time. It’s such a shame he’s a work of fiction - we’re sure every police force in the world would love to make use of his services if he were real! The Victorian sleuth was the creation of the author Arthur Conan Doyle, and is often referred to as 'the Great Detective.' The books which featured him sold in their millions, with the character even surviving an attempt by Conan Doyle to kill him off after complaints from his loyal readers. Since then, he's been played on movie screens by a variety of big-name actors including Robert Downey Junior, and also on a popular BBC television series, starring Benedict Cumberbatch. This slot takes its inspiration directly from the original text - 'A Scandal In Bohemia,' which was written in 1891.

Game Summary

Tom Horn Gaming has done a great job of representing the fictional world of Holmes on-screen. In the backdrop of the slot, Baker Street is just about visible, with horse-drawn carriages making their way down the road into the darkness. The reels are spun by clockwork cogs, which click and clatter away as they're turning, and give things a slight steampunk vibe. Most of the space, though, is given over to the 5x3 set of reels and rows, which contain 25 paylines, and plenty of opportunities for bonus fun.

When it comes to the symbols, the least valuable offerings here are the playing cards, which go from 9 to A, and have been rendered in copper, so they don't distract from the theme. Above them are a bag of gold coins, Sherlock's notebook and pen, and a hand mirror which appears to have caught somebody in a compromising situation. The wild is a portrait of Irene Adler - the most important female character in the original text - and will substitute for everything apart from the scatter to create winning combinations for you. It's a little hard to make out what the scatter symbol is supposed to be, but we think it might be a padlock.

In addition to the above, there are also two bonus symbols. One of them is a portrait of Sherlock, who's depicted as a wiry man with a thin mustache, and the other is of an unknown male. We suspect it might be Watson, but it isn't explicitly confirmed.

There are also three bonus features to play with in this slot, one of which is directly related to the tale that this slot borrows its scenery from.

Bonus Features

Two of the bonus features here are triggered by the portrait bonus symbols, and the other by the scatter. We’ll deal with the scatter first.

Landing three of the padlock scatter symbols anywhere on the reels will trigger a free spins feature for you, and bring you ten free spins. You'll get a further five free spins for each scatter symbol on top of that, and so the maximum possible is twenty for landing all five of them at once. This is quite a bland free spins feature; there are no additional wilds added to the reels, and nor are there any multipliers applied to your winnings. Usually, we'd complain about that - as we've come to expect more from free spins features in modern UK Mobile Slots - but there's another pair of bonus features here to make up for it.

The first of them is The Newspaper Bonus Round, which is a prize-pick round, and is entirely based on the plot of 'A Scandal In Bohemia.' For those not familiar with the story, it centers around Holmes trying to get a compromising photograph of a member of the royal family back from Irene Adler. In this bonus, you'll be presented with a newspaper, containing several blank boxes. Click each of the boxes to reveal a cash prize. Behind one of them is the photo, and if you find that it means the picture leaked to the press, and the round is over!

The second one is the Paparazzi Bonus Round, in which you have to get from one end of Hyde Park to the other without being spotted by the press. It’s a prize-pick round, similar to the one above, but in this case, the round ends when you click on a tree and locate the sneaky photographer.

Sherlock: A Scandal In Bohemia is a must-play Mobile Slots game for fans of the book series, purely because of the delightful tie-ins to the story. For those who aren’t Holmes fans, there’s still plenty to play for. Be prepared to put in some time and effort to trigger the bonus features though - they don’t come easily.

About the Mobile Slots Developer - Tom Horn Gaming

Tom Horn logo

You’ll find a Tom Horn office based in England, from which they serve the UK Mobile Slots scene, but it’s not truly their home. Like many other prominent slot developers, they’re actually based out in Malta, and they serve the whole of Europe. They may not be the most high-profile of the casino companies out there, but they might be one of the busiest. Online and Mobile Slots are only a slice of Tom Horn Gaming’s business interests. They’re still involved in the construction of physical products, designing and shipping slot machines and other casino products to bingo halls and land-based casinos wherever there’s a need.

Where the company got their name from is something of a mystery - and perhaps one that not even Sherlock Holmes himself could solve! There has never been anybody called Sherlock Holmes involved in the management of Tom Horn Gaming, and the only notable person by that name was a hitman who was once active in the United States of America! If you’d like to see what else this company have created, we can happily recommend that you take a look at Book of Spells Online Slot, Savannah King and Frozen Queen Mobile Slots Game.
