Various locations around the world often find themselves being used as the setting for Mobile Slots games, but the Pacific Islands don’t get as much love from most developers. There are many Mobile Slots which are set on the plains of Africa, or among the legendary sights of Ancient Egypt, but there’s equally inspiring scenery to be found in places such as a Hawaii, so we’re glad to see Net Ent taking a trip to the islands in this unconventional slot from 2016.

Game Summary

If Net Ent made an unusual decision with where to set this slot game, they made another off-kilter choice with its functionality. There are no traditional paylines in this slot at all. Instead, you’ll make winnings by getting symbols to land in clusters. Those clusters can be horizontal or vertical, and you’ll need a minimum of nine of them to join together to be worth anything. Nine sounds like a lot until you take into account two things. Firstly, the symbols always land in stacks. Secondly, this is a massive layout! The grid is six by five, offering plenty of space for clusters to group together.

Aloha! Mobile Setup

When it comes to the look and feel of the Aloha slot, it’s cartoonish and cheerful, just as you’d expect a Hawaiian theme to be. The islands are associated with fun times and a party atmosphere, so the slot brings plenty of both to players. There are palm trees everywhere you look in the background, along with clear blue water and a smoky volcano. A cheerful carved Tiki statue stands to the right of the reels, wearing a lei and reminding you to keep smiling as you spin.

Your chances of grouping nine matching symbols together are boosted by the fact that there are comparatively few symbols to begin with. The low values are made up of a flower, a shell, a coconut, and a pineapple. Above them are three different masks; one blue, one green, and one red. The red mask is the most valuable of all the symbols in the game. If you manage to completely fill every space with it, the resultant jackpot comes in at 10,000x* your line bet.

The good news is that there’s a wild to help you out with that quest. It comes in the shape of a wooden box with a question mark printed for it, and it can substitute for everything (including that valuable red mask) other than the bonus symbol. That’s a postage stamp of the islands as seen at night, and has ‘free spins’ printed on it - giving you quite a big clue about one of the bonus features that Aloha has to offer.

Bonus Features

Aloha comes with a pair of bonus features; one of which might happen at random after any time you find a winning combination, and another which is triggered through the bonus symbol. As the bonus symbol has already given the game away by telling you what it does, we’ll look at that one first.

You’ll receive a Free Spins round by getting the bonus symbol to land at least three times anywhere on the reels on the same spin. Three of the symbols get you nine spins, which is a lot for a low reward. You’ll get one more spin for each additional bonus symbol you find, should you have more than three on screen.

As well as being generous with the number of spins, this feature is also generous with how it rewards you. For a start, the least valuable base game symbols (the flower and the pineapple) are slowly removed from the reels for as long as the free spins last. They’ll all be there on the first spin, but on each spin that follows you’ll see them less and less. You can re-trigger the feature by finding more bonus symbols at any time, and it also offers you a ‘golden goodbye’ - if you don’t win anything on your final free spin, you’ll continue to receive more free spins until you do.

The second bonus feature is called Sticky Wins, and may randomly trigger after any winning spin. The winning cluster stays where it is for the next spin, and if any further matching symbols turn up to add to the cluster on the next spin, they’ll also stay where they are. This carries on until you’ve either totally filled the reels with matching symbols, or you spin without finding any new matching symbols. At that point, the total value of your win is counted up and awarded to you in cash.

Net Ent designed this Mobile Slots game to be fun, and they’ve achieved it. It’s a cheerful, friendly and generous slot which offers something different to a traditional, line based slot game. The sticky wins feature can lead to big wins if things are going your way, and the free spins feature is a generous one. We’re confident that you’ll enjoy saying ‘hello’ to Aloha!

About the Mobile Slots Developer - NetEnt

NetEnt logo

The Swedish company who designed Aloha are called Net Entertainment, but UK Mobile Slots players know them better by the abbreviated ‘Net Ent.’ They’ve been in and around the casino world since the late 1990s, having started out life building physical slot and fruit machines for land-based casinos, as well as other casino products. They were among the first casino companies to recognize the potential of the internet, and also one of the first to bring online and Mobile Slots to the market.

Because they had so few rivals in those early digital days, they were able to expand rapidly, capturing a significant market share before many of their competitors had even launched a single electronic product. They have multiple offices in prime locations across the world, and they translate all of their slots into more than twenty different languages.

Rather than sticking to a single idea or theme, Net Ent has a diverse portfolio of online and Mobile Slots, serving many different genres. Their most popular creation to date has been the Starburst Online Slot slot, which is available at Amigo Slots and is one of the most-played UK Mobile Slots of all time. Aloha isn't the first slot they've published which plays with the standard format though - the delightfully quirky Finn and the Swirly Spin offers yet another different take on how payouts work.
